Dr. William Payn–Still a Mover and Shaker in the Handbell World!

I was introduced to Bill Payn’s composition NOVA last summer when I had the privilege to direct at his Conducting Master Class. A Nova is a bright explosion of a star creating a brightness that can be 10’s of thousands of times brighter than a normal star. The handbell composition reflects the real event with energy and purpose. I chose it for our repertoire because I am always on the lookout for great teaching pieces and I thought, “NOVA” has memorable challenges and magic fror all voice parts!” And, yes, it will all be there, including “the dreaded doublings of the 5th octave bass notes!” Everyone is “important!
