WORKSHOP

Conducting: Beyond the Podium

Conducting involves much more than baton gestures; it requires clear communication and refined rehearsal skills to achieve musical goals. What you say and your commitment to teaching are key.

Among the challenges are teaching ringers to follow gestures, to execute pauses (fermatas, cesuras, etc), to manage tempo changes (ritards, accelerandos, immediate tempo changes in a score), to excecute dynamics and phrasing consistently, and to play notes rung together precisely.

How do we teach our musicians to trust their musicality without explaining every nuance? They know stuff! How do you help them put that knowledge to work?

Do we know how to teach effective score marking so that they can ring precisely as you are asking? If we never explain how to write that into the score, we’ll never get the results we desire!

These are just some of the things that a conductor contends with to help ringers advance in their musical skills and perform as a cohesive ensemble.

Everyone is welcome to attend. Please invite anyone you think can benefit or would be interested in learning Baton skills
